PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Hello Swan Reach,

What are your favourite memories from school? For some there might not be too many, which is not how it should be. For those who do hold some nicer memories, chances are there aren’t too many about academics, algebra, writing, history, or science. Most likely, the fonder memories are of friends and of camps and excursions or other fun extra-curricular activities. For those fortunate enough, memory of a good teacher or staff member would also be amongst the recollections. And it probably wasn’t what the teacher or staff member taught, more than likely it was how they treated you and made you feel. Every child deserves to have significant adults who believe in them and their potential.
WHOLE SCHOOL TRANSITION SESSIONS
Our first transition day last week, went well, despite the 3-6s being at camp. We look forward to the ongoing opportunities in week 6 & 7 to continue this important change process.
- Thursday 23rd November – lessons 3 and 4 (11:00am – 1:25pm)
- Thursday 30th November – lessons 1 and 2 (8:45am -11am)
THE RESILIENCE PROJECT (TRP)
To follow on last term’s TRP, Parent Inspire videos, SRAS will share snapshots from each GEM area to assist families to build their understanding and share in the learning.
Empathy
Working on empathy helps us to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. When we show empathy, or we do something kind for someone else our brain releases oxytocin. This leads to increasing our self-esteem/confidence, energy levels, positivity and over all happiness.
Whole Family Activity: Neighbourhood Kindness Challenge As a family, choose an act of kindness from the list below that you would like to do for a neighbour or family friend. Each family member can select one to commit to, or you can choose to do one together.
- Cook them something delicious like a cake, hot bread, or cookies.
- Write a note to put in their letter box thanking them for being a great neighbour or friend.
- Design them a Thank You card.
- Pick or buy some flowers to deliver to them.
- Choose a little plant from your garden to give them.
- Make them a gift from things around your house.
- Offer to do a job for them, like wash their car or water their garden.
- Offer to take their pets for a walk.
- Invite them over for afternoon tea.
- invite them on a walk.
- Recommend one of your favourite books to borrow and read.
- Ask them if they need anything from the shops next time you buy groceries.
- Say hello next time you see them and ask them how their day is going.
- Feel free to do more than one and spread the kindness even further!
Report back to each other in one week and share how your acts of kindness were received, and how doing them made you feel. Family Habit Builder: Every night at dinner, have each person thank another family member for something they’ve done or said today, or give another family member a compliment.
RURAL HEALTH CONNECT – FREE COUNSELLING
SRAS is fortunate to be connected with some external agencies who can assist children’s mental health. Rural Health Connect have secured some assistance for our students should they require some immediately, the link below takes you to the Rural Connect Psychologist booking page.
Students and community just need a GP Mental health care plan and they will receive 10 free visits. If the students cannot get to the GP, for transport reasons, there is a GP facility on the site that will assist with the plan. For students and low-income earners this service should be bulk billed.
Bulk Billing can be negotiated for anyone else who is having financial difficulty. Appointments can be completed via phone and video calls. (Flyer attacher)
