PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Remembrance Day is falling on a weekend day this year, so unfortunately SRAS students won’t be able to join the community for this special occasion, as a planned school event. All Australians are beneficiaries of the actions of numerous service men and women who have fought for our freedom and served to uphold our values and rights. SRAS encourages, and hopes many families will find time to give thanks and appreciation this Remembrance Day.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”  John F. Kennedy

      HOME GROUPS 2024

The preschool mid-year intake that started this year, will impact on the junior primary class in 2024. Therefore, after careful considerations, our primary home group structures will change slightly for 2024.

Our home groups for 2024 will most likely be:

      • Preschool
      • R/1 (with mid-year receptions joining in semester 2)
      • 2-4
      • 5/6
      • 7-10 (split into 7/8 and 9/10 for core subjects)
      • 11/12

      WHOLE SCHOOL TRANSITION SESSIONS

SRAS has planned three whole-school transition sessions that are outlined below:

      • Thursday 16th November – lessons 1 and 2 (8:45am -11am) – Principal’s Tour @ 9am
      • Thursday 23rd November – lessons 3 and 4 (11:00am – 1:25pm)
      • Thursday 30th November – lessons 1 and 2 (8:45am -11am)

The 3-6s will be on camp for the 1st transition day, however the transitions will  proceed.

You are invited to attend the Principal’s Tour that will be conducted on the 16th of November. This is an opportunity for families to visit learning spaces, view teaching and learning and ask clarifying questions about education at SRAS.

      BUSHFIRE PROCEDURES ON CATASTROPHIC DAYS

Whilst summer scorchers seem somewhat distant, this is a timely reminder of our bushfire procedures.

On days where a Catastrophic Fire Danger rating is forecasted:

      • all school bus routes travelling through any affected Fire Ban District(s) will be cancelled
      • school will still be open and lessons will run as normal

If the Fire Ban rating changes to ‘Catastrophic’ during the day:

      • school buses will operate as normal, unless advised otherwise by authorised Emergency Services personnel.

If a bushfire is reported in the area during the day:

      • affected bus runs will not to leave the school until the roads are declared safe by emergency services authorities

Parents will be notified and students will be supervised at school, until buses can run, or until parents are able to collect their children.

      THE RESILIENCE PROJECT (TRP)

To follow on last term’s TRP, Parent Inspire videos, SRAS will share snapshots from each GEM area to assist families to build their understanding and share in the learning.
