The extended power outage on Tuesday certainly challenged our status quo of modern teaching and learning routines. We have become accustomed and rely heavily on technology and electricity for; heating, computers, lighting, microwaves, smartboards, internet, hot water, flushing toilets – the list goes on. It was wonderful to see the resilience of staff and students to adjust and continue with modified learning programs throughout the day. The sausage sizzle at lunch helped to warm the day.

The loss of power didn’t affect our pre-schoolers, who were fortunate that the blustery conditions from Monday, settled enough to engage with their ‘Bush Kindy’ excursion to Mannum Waterfalls. SRAS is extremely thankful to preschool director of Tinyeri Children's Centre, Miriam Bjelovarac, for facilitating this exciting adventure. A day playing in nature is a wonderful learning experience. Miriam is fantastic in the way she communicates with the children. She encourages them to explore and use imagination to build their confidence and look closer at the wonders of nature through play.
