Hello Swan Reach,

  • We ask parents and carers to remain off-site unless essential
  • Volunteers are to remain off-site
  • Library is open community members after school hours

  • Social distancing remains in place for staff

SCHOOL SUPPORT

SRAS is able to assist you with inquiries regarding local and district support services who may help you, your family, your child(ren) or a friend in need. SRAS has actively sought and connected with Health and Welfare agencies to provide extra care, information and services. Some of the services engaging with our community travel to Swan Reach which is an enormous benefit for busy and families with transport difficulties. The following list shows the main non-departmental providers that students and families are or have engaging with:

  • Child Adolescent and Mental Health Services – Murray Bridge (counselling)
  • CentaCare – Murray Bridge (counselling)
  • Anglican Community Care – Communities for Children Murraylands (activities and events)
  • Mid Murray Support Services - Communities for Children, Mannum Hub (Seasons for Growth, Bringing up Great Kids, Parenting under Pressure, Drumbeat)
  • Mid Murray Family Connections – Mid Murray Mums (Face Book, sharing concerns, information and ideas)

It is timely for our community to reflect and reach out to those who have gone, going and will go through tough times. A word of encouragement, a random act of kindness, a phone call or visit are just some little ways we can show our support and empathy towards our neighbours - We (all) Matter.

SAPSASA VIRTUAL CROSS COUNTRY

On Thursday, 4th June, Preschoolto Year 6 have participated in “Virtual Cross Country”. Students ran 500m to 3000m depending on their birth year. The weather was beautiful and all the students did their very best to enjoy running that afternoon. Well done! Special thanks to Mr Coleman, Mrs O’Shaughnessy and Mrs Thomas for helping us run the event. Also a reminder that we will be having a “Jump Off Day” this Friday. Students from Preschool to Year 6 will be participating in different skipping activities. We will take some photos from this event so stay tuned and check the Week 9 newsletter

ASX SCHOOLS SHARE MARKET-GAME 1, 2020

It was a long journey for those Year 9 - 12 students who participated in the well-known ASX Schools Sharemarket Game from 12 March to 20 May. Each student received a virtual $50,000 they could invest over a 10-week period, in 220 companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).

Throughout the competition, I was pleased to see how active and excited those students became and in particular how confidently they put into practice what they had learnt in Financial Maths.

Big congratulations to Lochlan Hodge who came first in South Australia with a portfolio of $81,844.01. As a result, Lochlan is now $400 richer after receiving a real cash prize.

I also want to acknowledge other outstanding results achieved by Ryan Wiebrecht who came 11th in the state with a portfolio of $72,792.20 and Kai Williams who came 94th in the state with a portfolio of $60,316.62.

Finally, I want to congratulate all those students who took part in the competition. They had a lot of fun doing so and learnt many new skills along the way. I look forward to welcoming more young investors interested in participating in Game 2 of the competition which will begin in August. For more information, visit the link below:

ASX SHAREMARKET - Students’ Testimony

Initially, I tried to make a quick profit, but I realised that would be too slow. Therefore, I decided to change my strategy to buy and hold. I bought 908 shares of AfterPay at $13, then it shot up to $44 per share at the end of School Share Market Game.

Lochlan Hodge

This term Mr Tun, our Maths teacher, presented the share market game called ASX to the whole class. I was intrigued with the game and wanted to start right away. Once we had been explained how to play the game and what to do I got right into it and invested into a few companies such as WEB (Web Jet) and ANZ (Australian and New Zealand bank). Both of these companies plummeted down and lost me $10,000 in a week. After about half a month stocks started to rise and equalled themselves out. I then started to make money and was about 50th in our state! But I didn’t sell and lost my position. At the end of the game I had secured the 94th position in our state. This game had shown me how easy it is to make money from shares and how to use shares, I highly suggest we do this game every year.

Kai Williams

The stock market game was an interesting yet fun experience. The ability to actually win money increased my interest a lot more, like it would for anyone. But throughout the game I realised it was more than just the money, you can learn real life lessons from this ‘game’ to put into the real world, I’m looking forward to next semester and maybe even continuing after school from what I have learnt.

Stage 1 Food & Hospitality

As part of their Stage 1 Food and Hospitality Assessment, students were required to research food trends in their local area, following which they had to come up with their own version of a currently fashionable dish. Olivia tackled the classic Italian Tiramisu while Naomi served up her version of the trendy White Chocolate Dome with the surprise elements inside. Well done girls!
