Principals Report
Hello Swan Reach,
It’s terrific to witness the teaching and learning cycles that are off to a flying start. Staff, students and families have returned to old and new routines with quite a lot of positive and productive energy. After an extended break it is most gratifying to return to work in a community minded school that is well supported by family, friends, staff and the wider community.
INDUCTION ASSEMBLY
Congratulations to our School Captains, House Captains and SRCs who were inducted at our assembly last Thursday. It is satisfying to see many continuing their leadership roles as well a number of new SRC members. We look forward to witnessing your development, teamwork, encouragement and commitment throughout the year. Thankyou to Mr Ryan Grieger for presenting our leaders with their certificates and engaging the students with wise words about leadership and learning.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The noise generated at the carnival certainly showcased just how well SRAS students demonstrate our values of participation, care, success, integrity and respect. A deserved congratulations to all students for their confidence in ‘having a go’, especially in the morning when conditions were cooler. Well done to Mr Pfeiffer and Mr Cowland on the organisation of the day and to all staff for their involvement. Again, we are fortunate and glad that our P&F provided a delicious lunch and refreshments. Our parents and carers are fantastic and thankyou for making the time to join us and cheer on your children’s teams. The student Vs teacher Vs parents / carers relays were again a fun way to finish the day. Thanks to all participants.
ACQUAINTANCE NIGHT
We invite you and your family to our acquaintance night and BBQ on Monday, 18th February, at 5:30pm. Thank you to the families who have returned attendance numbers as this is vital for catering purposes. The attendance slip is on the back of the newsflash that went out last week prior to the swimming carnival. If it is lost or if it is easier for you, then let us know how many family members are attending via SMS on the school mobile.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS
It is fantastic that over 25 students have received home and school support to begin instrumental music lessons this year with Mr Peter Jesser. Instruments being taught are; drums, keyboard and guitar. Learning music is a wonderful creative opportunity that many mainstream subjects do not cater for.
GOVERNING COUNCIL DINNER & AGM
The Governing Council (GC) AGM and first meeting are on Monday the 18th February at 7:00pm in the SRAS library. The BBQ and acquaintance night preceding the AGM will be an excellent opportunity to grab a bite and a chat with current and interested Councillors to be better informed about GC roles and responsibilities.
There will be NO supervision for school aged children during the AGM and proceeding meeting.
The following positions on Council are needing to be filled at the AGM:
Parent Councillor—2 year term
Parent Councillor—1 year term
Parent Councillor—1 year term
Parent Councillor—1 year term
Parent Councillor—1 year term
ELC Representative—1 year term
Community Representative—1 year term
P&F Representative—1 year term
A nomination form and self-nomination form are included with this newsletter. All nominations will need to be returned to the office, NO LATER THAN 4pm on the 18th February. Nominated persons will then be elected by vote at the AGM.
Once we have established our composition of 8 Councillors, the office bearer positions (Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary) will then be nominated and elected from this group. These appointments are for 1 year. Council representation from all areas of schooling would be terrific to provide equity in voice and decision making.
SRAS acknowledges and is highly grateful for the contributions of former chair and finance committee councillor, Bradley Eggers who guided meetings capably over the past few years. His years of service on council, contributions and ideas will be missed.
PART TIME STAFF
We have a number of staff at SRAS who are not on-site all week. Below is a list and the day(s) that they are out to help you schedule meetings and other communication needs.

SRAS SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Thursday the 7th of February saw students from SRAS compete in the annual swimming carnival. Despite the gloomy morning conditions, the weather turned out to be a perfect day with participants enjoying some beautiful rays of sunshine - some a little too much! The all-round attitude and effort from students was exceptional and team spirit throughout the day reinforced this fact. New events such as the Big Bomb, Diving Competition and Yabby Race were a tremendous success with students’ willingness to participate a particular highlight. The day concluded with a Staff vs Students vs Parents race and to no surprise, the staff came out ‘fairly’ as victorious. The end results of the carnival saw fantastic individual results and accolades with the Eagles emerging triumphant by a narrow margin. Special thanks to parents, friends, staff and students for taking part in what was an overall rewarding and successful day as a whole. The Murray Eagles were the winning house with 415 points and the Mallee Kangaroos 299 points. Check out the gallery for more photos from the day.

Japanese exchange
Hineno High School, in Japan (the school that we have been doing the language exchange program with for more than 10 years), has decided to finish their language exchange program.
There is another school from Japan that have been bringing 60 plus students to South Australia every year and they are looking for schools who can be involved in hosting their students. This group of students are a bit younger than the Hineno High School students. They will be in years 7, 8 and 9. They will be visiting from 24th July to 2nd Aug.
Are you interested in hosting Japanese students? It will be an amazing experience for you and for the Japanese students. If you are interested/ have any questions, contact Mrs Yuka Endersby at school. I would like to confirm the number of interested families and respond to International Education Service by next Friday 22 February 2019.
Thank you in advance.
