Hello Swan Reach,
As we eagerly await the 24-hour Pedal Prix event at Murray Bridge next weekend, the excitement among students is growing. This is more than just a race; it's a testament to their hard work, determination, and team spirit. As they prepare to take on this challenge, we acknowledge how the GEM values of empathy, mindfulness, and gratitude continue to guide their journey.
Our students have shown considerable empathy, consistently encouraging each other through some tough training sessions and offering support when it is needed. They’ve embraced mindfulness by staying focused, learning to balance their roles in the team, and reflecting on how they can each contribute to success. Just as inspiring is the gratitude they’ve displayed—not only toward each other but also toward the staff and community members who’ve supported them.
SRAS would like to extend a special thanks to our key staff members, Mr Greg Griffiths and Mr Phil Carter, who have gone above and beyond in preparing and motivating the team. Their dedication is always instrumental in developing the students' skills and confidence. We are also grateful for the extra support staff, Mrs Leanne Griffiths and Mrs Bonnie Harmer, and community members who will be attending the event or have supported through sponsorship, helping to ensure our students have the guidance and care they need throughout the race.
This event highlights the strength of our school community, and we are proud of the collaborative spirit shown by everyone involved. Let’s rally behind our team and cheer them on as they pedal through the day and night in what promises to be another unforgettable experience.
Kind regards,
Mr John Robertson

Snapshot 7: Empathy 2
Did you know ….
80% of our happiness is derived from:
- Friendship
- Health
- Work fulfillment
- Loving relationships
- Spirituality
When you do something kind for someone else your brain releases the love hormone oxytocin. This makes you feel good too. Check out Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project talking about being kind and the benefits of kindness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO-ja3h5INc

Early Learning Centre News
As you know, we are working with The Resilience Project Early Years Wellbeing Program to support children to develop positive mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness.
As part of the program, we are engaging in a community project Mindful Colouring as a strategy to practise mindfulness.
At our entrance, we have set up a mindfulness colouring station.
We invite our families and wider community to visit the ELC and spend some time engaging in mindfulness colouring. Alternatively, you are welcome to take some colouring pages to practise mindful colouring at home.
What to do when visiting:
Choose a Cosy Koala mindfulness colouring page, or a page in one of our colouring books.
Sit quietly and choose your colouring pencils/textas/crayons.
Think about what you are doing in the moment instead of thinking about yesterday or tomorrow or what is happening next:
-Think about the feel of the pencils/textas.
-Think about the noise they make on the paper.
-Think about the detail of the picture.
-Think about how hard or soft you are pressing.
-Think about the colour you are using.
-Think about the way you are colouring. What direction are you going in?
Support children by asking them to focus on one of the above. Focussing on these things helps us to be in the present moment.
Why Mindfulness?
Working on mindfulness gives you opportunities to develop your ability to pay attention to the present moment and your thoughts. Research shows that practising mindfulness can reduce depression, reduce anxiety, improve decision making and your ability to focus. Mindfulness can also improve your physical health by reducing blood pressure. Even just 5 minutes a day can have huge benefits.

Occasional Care
We have good news! Our Occasional Care service will be back up and running in Term 4. Occasional Care is available for children aged 2-4 years on Friday mornings, from 8.30am till 12.30pm. The service will be integrated with our preschool session, and will be co-ordinated by our SSO, Mr Roy McKenzie.
As numbers are restricted, families wishing to utilise this service, will need to register their interest by phoning the front office on 85702053. This includes both previously enrolled children and new children. New enrolments also need to fill in an enrolment form and provide birth and immunisation certificates. Roy will then be in contact with confirmation of your booking and further information.

Y3/4 Hot Shot Carnival
On Tuesday, week 7, a group of Year 3 & 4 students participated in the Hot Shot Tennis Carnival that was held at Mannum Tennis Courts. Students got to play many mini doubles against each other as well as students from Mannum. Congratulations to all the students who participated very well throughout the day. They were on their best behaviour and displayed great sportsmanship. Special mention to Tayte and Emilee for receiving the best Team Players of the day from our school.

This semester, the Year 2-3 and Year 4-5 classes have been learning adjectives and sentence structure to describe anime characters. After completing this activity, the Year 4-5 class are now working on their assessment task which is creating a 'Wanted Poster' of their favourite Japanese anime character. The Year 2-3 class have been learning describing words and are now creating their unique 'Guess Who' game. Most of the students have trialled their game in English and will be playing the game in Japanese next week.

Well done to all our sporting heroes that made the finals this season. Congratulations to Miss Maxwell on her recent netball grandfinal win! B3 2024 Premiers, defeating Onkaparinga 33 to 28. Well done. Congratulations also to Mrs Cowland who took out the Murray Valley Netball League A-Grade Best and Fairest award. Good luck to Maliyah Haby who will play her grandfinal at Tintinara this weekend.
REMINDER TO PARENTS/CARERS: Thank you for making sure that ALL your children's belongings (clothes, lunch boxes, drink bottles, etc.) are CLEARLY LABELLED with your child's name. Labelled property can be easily returned to its owner.
At the start of this term a stack of clothing was collected from various places around the school which have not been labelled with any names. This includes:
School Embroidered Hoodies
1 x Size 10
1 x Size 12
1 x Small
1 x Size 10 Anko Kids zip up jacket
1 x Size 10 Anko Kids Hoodie
1 x Size 7 Anko leggings
2 x Size 8 Anko trackpants (brand new)
If any of these items belong to your child/children, thanks for contacting the school and we can send them home.
Also we are looking for a school embroidered hoodie, size 10 with Axle named on the inside tag. It is possible it may have been picked up accidently by another student, return would be appreciated, no questions asked.
We would also like to advise that we can also offer an embroidery service if anyone wants to have their child/children's names embroidered on their school clothing for a small fee of $5.00 per garment. If you are interested in this service contact the school.
Mrs Leanne Griffiths
Good health habits and personal hygiene are essential life skills. Children need to learn life skills that are necessary in order to become healthy, confident and responsible adults. In people with poor personal hygiene, the body provides an ideal environment for germs to grow, leaving it vulnerable to infection. On a social level, people may avoid a person with poor personal hygiene, which may result in isolation and loneliness.
- Showering or bathing every day.
- Washing hands with soap and water often.
- Washing hair regularly.
- Brushing hair every day and getting haircuts when needed.
- Brushing teeth twice a day.
- Changing underwear daily and wearing clean clothes.
- Using personal hygiene products such as deodorant.
