PRINCIPALS REPORT
Hello Swan Reach,
A big thanks to our secondary students for their TEAM engagement, encouragement and participation in the recent 6-hour pedal prix event at Tailem Bend. Many thanks too, to the staff and parents / carers who supported the team, before, during and afterward. It is highly rewarding to see how this investment has post-schooling outcomes and to hear how some of our graduates have financially invested in, and are riding in their own teams. Well done to SRAS on the achieving 84th place out of 170 teams. This achievement is even more notable when considering our team competes in the senior secondary division, even though we have much younger riders.
This week began with an incursion from ‘Mates on a Mission’, who shared their
‘Real Life Resilience’ session with all our students. Ben, who students have met previously through Ski-4-Life, and his mate, Mike, facilitated 3 sessions – R-4, 5-7 & 8-12. Their positive messages mixed with age-appropriate activities, catered extremely well for our students’ differing understandings. Their key resilience messages are:- We have choice in how we respond to things that happen to and around us
- We can control our thinking, self-talk, how we talk to others and our actions
- Have a good TEAM around us
- Use the TEAM around us
- It’s OK to let others know, and to share when things are not OK
Their message strongly complements our The Resilience Project and wellbeing learning at SRAS. A brief summary about their personal stories and message of resilience is on the following video link. https://www.realliferesilience.com.au/about

Hugh, who is also a parent of young children will talk about ways to support the mental health of your whole family. Through emotionally engaging stories and practical strategies, Hugh will demonstrate the power of vulnerability and imperfection and demonstrate the positive impact connection can have on all of us.
Use the following link to register your interest. REGISTER HERE After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
What you can expect… Through emotionally engaging stories and practical
strategies, this session will help parents and carers understand the benefits of letting go of shame, perfection, ego and control. It will combine powerful research with candid storytelling, along with a few laughs to help support what is arguably the toughest job in the world… being a parent or carer.
Why a Parent & Carer presentation?
When building positive mental health in schools, we know the best impact happens when we work together.
This ‘Authentic Connection’ presentation helps to do just that, by sharing those same evidence-based strategies being taught in SRAS classrooms, so they can be practised at home and beyond.
Attendees will also be reminded of the importance of their own wellbeing. We bring the best versions of ourselves to our family and community, when we make time to look after ourselves.
CONNECTED PARENTING
The Connected Parenting (Webinar) is scheduled for Monday, 22 July 2024 06:30PM. For a preview of the content and the presenter click on the link below.

ELC Mother’s Day afternoon
On Friday of week 2, the preschool children invited all the ‘Special Ladies' in their lives to come to the Early Learning Centre for an afternoon of fun, togetherness, and pampering. At the nail polish station, the children gave their guests a beautiful manicure, with some children even getting one in return. Many enjoyed reading together on our comfy couch. Another activity shared was decorating biscuits. The children loved posing for photos at the photo booth, choosing different props for their guests to hold. The children also made beautiful necklaces and bracelets for their loved ones. I wonder how many remembered to wear them out to lunch on Mother’s Day?
Lastly, we set up a relaxing massage room with calming music, where the children spoilt mums with massage rollers on their backs, arms, and legs.
Thank you to all the mums, big sisters, and little sisters (and some brothers) who were able to come along. We had such a wonderful afternoon.

Mrs E’s Japanese Corner
In Year 7/8 class, we have continued to explore our identity starting from our names. Students are having a chance to reflect back on who they are and how their identity have been formed. As the students revisit about themselves, they have been learning how to introduce themselves in Japanese.
We will be concluding this unit by writing the personal profile. Students will be using all the sentences and phrases that they have learnt this semester to write up their profile, all in Japanese.
I am hoping to share the students’ profile in the future newsletter?
