PRINCIPALS REPORT
Hello Swan Reach,
It was terrific to connect with families again and having you join our end of term 1 assembly. With so many children and students coming by bus, which is a wonderful assistance for families, we tend to have less opportunities to connect and share our
core business of teaching and learning. Whenever SRAS and families have created opportunities for genuine and authentic connections with community, the staff, children, students and parents / carers are positively engaged and rewarded by the experiences. Some of our previous bigger events, such as the WeMatter and MMOT events were fun and seeing the community come together is always so positive and enriching.
In a similar, but on a smaller scale, the mid-term, end of term assemblies and presentation evenings also provide our community with opportunities for authentic connection to school and preschool. All authentic connections tend to have the following traits:
- Vulnerability
- Imperfection
- Passion
Your children and our students certainly demonstrate all these qualities when performing, as they open themselves to share their learning stories with us. Thank you for making time to witness them sharing their journeys, as the children continue to enrich our teaching & supporting, parenting and caring.
THE RESILIENCE PROJECT (TRP)
SRAS is using the $30,000 DfE Wellbeing grant for long-term investment on students, staff and families through an ongoing commitment to TRP. The wellbeing support for parents and carers is provided in the following ways:

One of our yr.2 students has been exploring mathematical concepts at home with nature. She was very excited to share her new learning with the class. As part of the children's voice, we discussed taking our math's studies outside. We all collected dry leaves and used these to build an array. An array is a group of objects that can be used to represent groups of something. We used the leaves to make these arrays.

Year 2-4 Class
Mrs E’s Japanese Corner
Welcome back to term 2, I hope you all had a great school holiday.
In Japanese this term, the primary classes have started by celebrating the Japanese Children’s Day that was on 5th of May. Students have learnt or revisit what the day is for and have created very colourful Carp Streamer, one of the decorations, to be part of the celebration. Carps in Chinese/ Japanese traditional stories represent success, so by decorating the carp, it wishes the children’s success in their life.
This term R/1 class will be continue learning about Japanese and their identity through the language and the culture.
Y2-4 will be continue be learning through the unit of “The Hungry Caterpillar” They will be able to form some simple sentences in Japanese.
Y5/6 will be continue learning the topic “weather”. This term, as a part of their assessment task, students will be creating a video clip of weather forecast in Japanese using a green screen.
Y7/8 will be continue exploring their identity going through the unit of work from DfE “Identity”. In this unit, students have learnt the greetings and self-introduction in Japanese, but we also have explored the difference with our culture. This term we will be learning a few more sentences and phrases that express our identity in Japanese as we revisit our identities.
I am hoping to share our learning through the newsletter so please stay tuned.
