Hello Swan Reach,
As we track toward the end of term, I am filled with pride as I reflect upon the ongoing support and strong community ties that continue to define our school. Our community is the cornerstone of our success. Throughout the term, we have again enjoyed an outpouring of support from parents, carers, staff, and local organisations, all coming together to ensure the holistic development and wellbeing of our children. Your dedication and involvement in our school community are truly commendable, and it is through your collaborative efforts that we are able to create an enriching environment where every child can thrive.
As we reflect on the term, our calendar was full with exciting extra-curricular activities that not only foster a sense of camaraderie but also provide invaluable opportunities for our students to showcase their talents and sportsmanship. From the exciting Swimming Carnival to the spirited Sports Day, and the competitive Upper SE Athletics, our students have exemplified dedication and determination in their pursuits. Moreover, participation in events such as SSSA and SAPSASA Athletics has not only honed their athletic abilities but also instilled in them the values of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.
In addition to our extra-curricular calendar, this term has also seen active engagement from our school community through events such as 3-Way Conversations and Governing Council meetings. These platforms not only provide valuable opportunities for meaningful dialogue between parents, students, and teachers but also foster a sense of partnership in shaping the future direction of our school. Your participation and input are invaluable, and I encourage you to continue actively engaging in these forums as we work together to create the best possible learning environment for our children.
It is with heartfelt appreciation that I extend my gratitude to our Parents and Friends for their continuing support and delicious catering contributions at Swan Reach Area School. Your ongoing contribution, be it big or small, plays an integral role in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere at SRAS. Your dedication and commitment to our school community are deeply appreciated and serve as a shining example of the spirit of collaboration and unity.
As we bid farewell to another enriching term at Swan Reach Area School, we cordially invite all parents, carers, friends, and community members to join us for our end-of-term assembly on Friday, 12th April, starting at 1:30pm.
This assembly promises to be a celebration of our students' achievements, growth, and contributions throughout the term. It will be a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community, reflect on our collective accomplishments, and celebrate the spirit of unity and excellence that defines SRAS.
Following the assembly, we will have an early dismissal at 2:10pm, allowing our students to kickstart their well-deserved break a little earlier.
Kind regards,
Mr John Robertson
Principal
WELCOME
We extend a warm welcome to new students, Brayden and Kaylee. Brayden has joined our 5/6 class and Kaylee has joined the 2-4s.
SECONDARY TICK BOXES
With many families attending 3-Way Conversations in week 8, SRAS will not be sending home tick boxes at the end of this term. Any families wishing for more progress report about their child’s learning are invited to contact their subject teachers.
THE RESILIENCE PROJECT (TRP)
Snapshot 5: Emotional Literacy
Working on our emotional literacy gives us opportunities to develop our ability to understand and express different emotions. When we improve our emotional literacy, we can work towards recognising our own feelings and our ability to manage them. This allows us to cope with different life situations, such as managing conflict, making friends, coping in difficult situations, and being resilient when dealing with change.
Whole Family Activity: Feelings Charades
Gather together as a family, this might be around the dinner table, lounge room, or around the fire outside.
Take turns to act out a feeling or emotion. Use your face and body language to act this out, For example: Make an angry face and stamp your feet or
Other family members need to guess the feeling/emotion.
After someone has guessed the feeling/emotion, have family members discuss a time they have felt this way before and why. If it was a negative emotion, how did they overcome it?
Family Habit Builder:
Around the dinner table, ask everyone to share a feeling they felt during that day. Discuss how they dealt with that feeling and then discuss and share strategies you could use when faced with particular feelings.
Mrs E’s Japanese Corner
What is happening in Y7/8 Japanese class?
In Y7/8 class, students have started the unit “Identity” in Japanese.
In this unit, students have an opportunity to revisit their own culture in comparison to Japanese culture throughout the greeting, self-introductions, names and so on. Students have just finished their formative task of conducting a conversation of meet and greet. Students will continue learning some more Japanese phrases and sentences as they revisit their own culture and their own identity.
We have also been revisiting the Hiragana and kanji symbols as the unit progresses. In secondary school, students’ expectations are more towards utilising the tools that they can access, to solve the language problems more so than remembering.

SRAS Sports Day
The 2024 SRAS Sports Day was an incredible day for our school! Our students, staff, parents/carers and wider community were amazing! Last Thursday, those lucky enough to attend, witnessed a great display of participation, sportsmanship and teamwork. To all who were involved, big or small, we would like to personally thank you for contributing to this great whole-school event!
Now, time to look back at some of the incredible achievements and triumphs on this amazing day for our students.
I would like to firstly credit all of our students who participated in the combined 3000m/1000m event, held on Monday, 25th March. All together, we had close to 80% of the school students competing in the combined event!
Congratulations to Shawn Lane, who broke his older brother’s junior boys discus record set last year. Tehya Fawdry also broke the open girls 800m record, set by Cora O’Shaughnessy in 2022. An honourable mention to both Tommy and Lily, who were only centimetres short of breaking their respective age-group javelin and high jump records.
As witnessed in the action-packed finish to the day, students competed in a number of fun and exciting team games, including the baton relay, tunnel ball, cross pass, firemen’s relay and tug of war to name a few. These events provided all students with the opportunity to participate and be a part of a team. Parents were even able to get in on the action of the tug of war, convincingly overpowering the staff in the final event of the day. A huge credit to the amount of families who attended the event.
Overall, a big congratulations to the Mallee Kangaroos on winning the SRAS Sports Day for 2024. Also, congratulations to the individual trophy winners who are listed below.
I would like to thank the efforts of many important people who volunteered their time to help make this day both possible and successful. There are simply not enough staff members to be able to run all of the different activities that are held on this day. I send out a huge thank you to the following people who volunteered to help marshal: Troy Haby, Jonno Wenske, Renae Hodge, Klaus Gierke, Patrick Woods and Mark Coleman. Thank you also to anyone else who helped out at particular events in need throughout the day.
Once again, I sincerely thank the incredible work done by our Parents & Friends team to provide lunch. They are simply amazing!
I save the last thank you for all of the staff who helped us with preparation, set up and pack up of this event. I would like to especially thank the efforts of our groundsman, Phil Carter. We are SO lucky to have you at SRAS and we simply couldn’t hold this event without you!

Print City have had a supplier issue, it seems to be an ongoing thing at the moment and unfortunately, sometimes the suppliers themselves are unsure of their ETA’s as they are waiting to get the garments into their warehouse.
It looks like they’ve gotten a shipment in now, so fingers crossed we should see backorders delivered from this week!
We have also place an order for Jumpers through a separate supplier and are hoping to receive delivery early in Term 2.
Jumper purchases can be made through the front office with cash or EFTPOS only.
