Hello Swan Reach,
As we reflect on our recent 3-Way Conversations, we are grateful for the support and active participation from each of you. Your dedication to your child's education is inspiring, and we cannot thank you enough for the time and effort you have invested in these important discussions.
The collaboration between parents, teachers, and students is fundamental to creating a thriving learning environment, and your presence during these conversations exemplifies this partnership beautifully. Your insightful questions, thoughtful reflections, and genuine concern for your child's progress demonstrate the depth of your commitment to their academic and personal growth.
We understand that balancing work, family, and other commitments can be challenging, yet your prioritisation of your child's education speaks volumes about your values and priorities. Your active involvement not only strengthens the bond between home and school but also reinforces the message to your child that education is a shared journey in which we all play a vital role.
During our conversations, we witnessed meaningful exchanges of ideas, shared aspirations, and collaborative goal-setting. These interactions serve as powerful reminders of the profound impact that parental engagement has on student success. By working together, we can provide the support and guidance necessary to help every child reach their full potential.
As we move forward, let us continue to foster this spirit of partnership and mutual respect. Let us remain committed to open communication, constructive feedback, and a shared commitment to excellence. Together, we can create a nurturing and empowering environment where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to excel.
Once again, we extend our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for your invaluable contributions to our school community. Your involvement makes a difference, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.

Snapshot 4: Mindfulness
Working on mindfulness gives us opportunities to develop our ability to pay attention to the present moment and our thoughts. Practising mindfulness daily can help us stay focused on set tasks and reduce stress and anxiety.
Whole Family Activity: Mindful Walk
As a family, go on a walk outside in nature. This might be around your local walking track, at your local park, or just around your streets.
While walking, tune into your senses and observe what you can see, hear, and feel. Or you might choose to focus on one of the senses. Eg: Hear: what are all the noises you can hear on your walk?
On your way home or when you return home, share what each person saw, heard, or felt.
Family Habit Builder:
Each night at dinner, ask everyone to take one mouthful of food more mindfully than the rest and think about the flavours they can taste and how it makes them feel. (They can also thank the chef!).
The stage is getting ready for a cracking 2024 SRAS sports day next Thursday! Our first official event for the day, the open 800m, will kick off at approximately 9:20am. A huge thank you goes out to all of the incredible parent helpers who have already put their hand up to assist with marshalling events.
We are still looking for more helpers for the day, thank you for contacting the school if you would like to assist with any event.
The practice sessions commenced on Wednesday during lunch time, where students can work on their team events. The combined 3000m/1000m event and Javelin/Discus will be running next week Monday and Tuesday mornings respectively.
We look forward to seeing everyone out in their sea of red and blue colours next Thursday!

What is happening in Y5/6 Japanese class?
In Y5/6 class, students have started the unit “天気てんきWeather” in Japanese.
We have learnt the name of the weather eg: sunny, cloudy and rainy. Students learnt the name of the major cities of Japan to be able to say what the weather is at the location. Students will eventually be able to report the weather of the location as a weather reporter in Japanese.
We have also been revisiting the Hiragana and Kanji symbols. Hiragana symbols are like the alphabet, Kanji symbols originated from China and each symbol has a meaning.

SRC Report
Youth Leadership Academy Australia Conference
On the 29th of February and 1st of March, our SRC members attended a Youth Leadership conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre. We listened to the hosts and guest speakers talk about their journey in leadership throughout life and the strategies they used to help them along the way. We interacted with students from other schools from across the state and gained knowledge to help us be better leaders within ourselves and for our school community. The day was highly engaging and informative. It gave us a framework and the confidence to identify problems and make change happen at SRAS.
Some key takeaways we took from the conference were:
- “Leadership is the ability of individuals to influence and guide ourselves and others” – Brene Brown
- Lead with curiosity not judgement to initiate discussions and conversations.
- Different leadership styles and when to use them: director (leading form the front), peer (leading from the side) and supporter (leading form the back). We all have a natural style but need to able to shuffle/step into a different style for different purposes.
- Key quote of the session: “Your age does not determine your ability to do extraordinary things” – Wil Massara.
- Getting out of our comfort zone is essential for personal growth. If we don’t take that leap, chance or opportunity, we will never know the learning that will come from it.
RIVER MALLEE & DISTRICTS ATHLETICS
Last Tuesday, 12th March, SRAS had 13 secondary students compete at the River Mallee & Districts (RMD) Athletics Day at Tintinara Town Oval. Congratulations to Jazzy, Jacob, Ella, Tehya, Jarred, Tommy, Logan, Jade, Maliyah, Cooper, Tyler, Lily and Tj for representing our school in this competition. Our students were given a great opportunity to represent our school and gain valuable experience competing against the highest performing athletes from a range of schools in our district, including: Karoonda, Tintinara, Mannum, Coomandook, Keith and Lameroo.
In total, our selected students competed in approximately 50 events across the day, displaying great sportsmanship throughout. A few key highlights for the day included 4 x first places for Jacob in the shot put, discus, javelin and triple jump, Tommy and Lily both came 1st in javelin, while Tehya, Jazzy and Lily all came in the top three in the 100m. Overall, Jacob won the 16-year-old boys age group and Jazzy came runner up for the senior girls. These are all brilliant achievements for this highly competitive carnival!
Finally, a big congratulations to Jazzy, Jacob, Tehya and Lily for being selected in the River Mallee and Districts team, set to be held at SANTOS Stadium in Adelaide next Wednesday the 27th of March. Notably, Tommy would’ve also been selected, however the stadium is undergoing renovations, and unfortunately javelin was deemed unsafe to hold at this year’s SSSSA event. Thank you to the parents who dropped off/picked up their child early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Also, a big thank you to Troy Cowland and Troy and Shona Haby for their assistance with running this day for our students.
