Hello Swan Reach,
With the end of the term being imminent, it is once again timely to thank our stakeholders and partners in education. It takes a community to raise a child and a good community to do it well. The extended SRAS schooling community consistently cares for and nurtures children and youth, who are our future. Many thanks to all and especially those in unseen roles. Our appreciation extends to:
- Bus drivers
- Governing Councillors
- Volunteers
- MMOT (Mid Murray Our Town)
- Swan Reach Store
- Swan Reach Op Shop
- BSR Football & Netball Club
- Ferry operators
- Local businesses – especially for facilitating year 10 work experiences
- Relief teachers
- Mid Murray Council
- Parents and Carers
- SAPOL
- The Resilience Project
- LET (Learning Education Team)
- Staff
Our biggest thanks and appreciation we reserved for our children and students, whom without, many of us aren’t required or have a job. Thanks for sharing the privilege of your education and we do wish you and your families a safe and blessed holiday.
Join us at our celebration SRC hosted assembly this Friday beginning at 1:30pm followed by an early dismissal at 2:10pm.
FAREWELL
SRAS wishes Mr Peter Jarvis the very best with his next education adventure at Coonalpyn AS in term 4. Mr Jarvis has back-filled the complex roles vacated by Mr Greg Griffiths who took long service leave this term. Thank you, Peter, for your contributions to the SRAS team, for continuing the learning and teaching set up by Greg, and for establishing effective relationships with staff and students at SRAS – most appreciated.
Mr John Robertson
Principal
The students in years 5 and 6 are working on HASS Civics and Citizenship- Laws and Regulations, which is helping them to pose their questions to the Ministers of the state when we visit Parliament House in Term 3. They have begun to explore persuasive texts, and have written a text on, "If I was Prime Minister", they had to state what they wanted to see changed, and why.
This learning, allowed for open-ended questions to be formed, and began discussions on Climate Change, Damage to our Animal Habitats, The Aboriginal Voice to Parliament, and a light-hearted discussion why Ice-Cream is important.

RMD MIXED NETBALL @ MURRAY BRIDGE
On Tuesday, 4th July, eight secondary students from SRAS combined with Karoonda Area School (KAS) to compete in the annual River Mallee & District Mixed Netball Tournament. Combining with KAS allowed both schools to fulfil their respective teams in each age group – without this partnership with KAS, our students would likely miss out on competing in this event. Overall, the day was a huge success, with our 11/12 side going through undefeated, our 9/10’s finishing second and our 7/8’s coming in 3rd (out of 9 teams). These events are so valuable to our students, especially when considering that most of them who participated have never had the opportunity to compete in a netball tournament outside of school. I’m extremely grateful to KAS for allowing us to join with them to make this possible for our students. Lastly, I’d like to thank Kate Howie for her assistance and support for students on the day.

NET SET GO / MIXED NETBALL TOURNAMENT
On Tuesday night, 4th July, we wrapped up our Net Set Go & Social Mixed Netball Tournament for 2023. This initiative took place throughout term 2 every Tuesday night in the school gymnasium. Overall, the program has been incredibly supported by the community, with approximately 25 children involved in the Net Set Go program over the 8 weeks, along with 4 mixed netball sides competing each week. The objective behind this initiative was solely about bringing community together for a fun, social event, which captured people of all ages to be involved in some way.
It’s difficult to thank everyone who played a role in the success of this event, since so many people lent a hand throughout, however there’s a few key people who have been integral to the program. Clearly, without the Net Set Go, this event wouldn’t work, so I’d like to especially thank Mardi LeBrun, Kate Howie, Tash Dabinet, Claire Durant, Holly Cowland and Elouise Stalenberg for their incredible work with running this each week.
Although the program was organised through the Blanchetown Swan Reach Football Netball Club, it also wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Mid Murray Our Town, the Blanchetown Shell and SRAS. MMOT were our major sponsoring partner for this program, allowing it to be completely free for all involved. The Blanchetown Shell generously donated our supplies each week to provide a free BBQ for all. Finally, Swan Reach Area School generously allowed us to utilise the facilities in the gymnasium each week to make it all possible.
Finally, a big congratulations to the ‘Fast Farmers’ team who successfully took out the grand final held on Tuesday night. To everyone involved, whether it was playing or spectating, thank you for your support. I hope to see even more families and community members involved with the program again next year.
