Welcome to term 2. With the high number of extra-curricular activities experienced in term 1, impacting on effective schooling routines, we look forward to a more settled term to fully embed teaching and learning routines. Even with the interruptions, the quality of teaching and learning was again, well demonstrated at the end of term assembly, along with noticeable growth of The Resilience Project’s GEM attributes.
SRAS wishes Mr Greg and Mrs Leanne Griffiths our sincere best for a relaxing, refreshing and rejuvenating experience, as they travel around Australia on their long service leave during this term. We’ve managed to secure the services of experienced permanent relief teacher, Mr Peter Jarvis, who will backfill for Mr Griffiths. Our library will miss the knowledge, skills and efficiency of Mrs Griffiths along with her ICT expertise and our SSOs will cover as much as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding with any delays as we re-organise the supports needed for our school community library.
WELCOME
SRAS warmly welcomes Jaydee and her family to our schooling community. Jaydee joins our year 7/8 class. SRAS also welcome Mrs Margie Doyle, who will be an additional teacher with our junior and middle primary classes on Wednesday and Thursdays, as well as the preschool on Fridays.
SRAS also welcomes back Mr Shane McGrath, who is taking on a volunteer role this term. He’ll be based with the 5/6 class and then begin to extend his experiences across the school, R-12. It is wonderful for SRAS that he is making time and is highly keen to assist students and staff. He established effective relationships with staff and students last term while on placement for his Certificate in Community Services and will be an asset for us.
Kind Regards
John Robertson
Principal
THE RESILIENCE PROJECT (TRP)
SRAS is excited to release TRP with families and community this term. Our preschoolers will also begin engaging with TRP and GEM this term. Preschool families can keep an eye out for ‘Cosy Koala’, who will feature in TRP new take-home strategy to support the connection between the ELC and home.
TRP Parent Hub that provides an overview of TRP for families and connects with TRP learning and practice at SRAS is accessible via the link in ‘Part 1 – Introducing - The Resilience Project’ information below:
Part 1: Introducing The Resilience Project – Parent and Carer video series
Throughout 2023, we will be working closely with The Resilience Project to support the wellbeing of our school community.
The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience.
Our Partnership Program consists of online presentations and weekly lessons for students, professional development for staff, and Parent & Carer Hub (inc. digital presentations) for our parent and carer community.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the Parent & Carer Hub with you. The videos are 5-10 minutes long and will walk through the key pillars of resilience: Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness. You’ll hear stories and be introduced to activities to show how these strategies can support our kids' learning and development, and also support you as parents and carers.
This program is an important part of our school’s effort to look after the mental health of our community.
View the first presentation of the series here:
Part 1: Meet Hugh and learn about The Resilience Project - https://theresilienceproject.com.au/2023-parent-carer-hub-inspire-hugh/
In this presentation, Hugh shares a personal experience about his sister's battles with Mental Illness.
Note: This video contains a story about an Eating Disorder that may be triggering. Please consider this before watching. For mental health resources and support information, visit The Resilience Project’s Support Page.
We will be in touch fortnightly to share the remainder of the program, including research and wellbeing activities to integrate into day-to-day life.
A holiday update from Mrs & Mrs Griffiths - The TIV ( Trip in Van) Tour
Hi everyone, we have made our way up the east coast with stopovers including Brisbane, Whitsundays, port Douglas and Karumba (near the Gulf of Carpentaria).
We headed into the Northern Territory on Monday and stopped over at Barkly Roadhouse, Daly waters and now at Mataranka. This place is beautiful, warm weather and Bitter Springs where you float down the water which is about 34 degrees. Having a great time!
9 a-side Football
On the 6th of April last term, Year 4,5 6 students had participated in 9-aside football carnival that was held in Unity College, Murray Bridge. Most of our students have never been part of community clubs but both boys and girls had a good crack and played very well.
We are hoping to make this trip an annual event so that our students have an opportunity to play the great game of Aussie Rules Football.
Interschool Sports Day
On Wednesday 12th April, we invited Cambrai Primary School for an interschool sports day. We started this event 2 years ago and since then we have been trying to alternate the location and give our primary students opportunities to compete with other schools.
Students participated in all the events and competed with Cambrai PS. Both of the school's students were willing to help other teams which was great to see. We had our Year 7-10 students assisting with measuring the individual events.
Thanks to all the school communities for helping out for the whole day. The weather turned out great in the end as well. It was great day overall.

Early Learning Centre: Fun at Ruby’s Farm!
The Preschool class visited Shona and Troy Haby’s farm during the last week of Term 1. The children were lucky enough to learn all about looking after the lambs and horses. Everyone had a turn feeding the lambs their bottles of milk. We were running a bit late so they were VERY hungry. Ruby showed us how to brush Rosie the horse. Everyone had a turn brushing and we also fed her apples. Ruby even showed us how she gets the muck out of Rosie’s hooves. We then walked to the enormous implement shed and the children took turns to climb up the big ladder and sit in the header. Back at the house, we loved exploring the garden and finding so many caterpillars about to become monarch butterflies! Another highlight was definitely playing in Ruby’s awesome playground. What a great morning! When we got back to the ELC we wrote down all the things we did and learnt and the next day we painted pictures. Thankyou so much Shona, Troy and Ruby for having us at your farm.

Swan Reach Area School Parent and Friends Committee
The AGM for the Swan Reach Area School Parents & Friends Committee was held in the second week of the school holidays at the Swan Reach Community Library. It was great to see so many faces, and especially all the kids that came along. I think they enjoyed playing in the school playground together. The meeting went well, and the new committee members include:
President: Claire Durant
Secretary: Mardi Le Brun
Vic President and Vic Secretary: Tash Dabinet
Treasurer: Kate Howie
Committee Members: Kristy Castle, Shona Haby, Joke Wenske
The committee is open to new members at any time, and we welcome you to join us. If you contact the front office, they can guide you how to join the committee.
So far this year we have been involved in the SRAS Sports Day, SRAS Swimming Carnival and the Swan Reach/ Cambrai Inter school sports day. All of these events had been catered by the P&F Committee with great success. We had everyone on board on the day and it certainly does help to get the job done.
Our next event will be the Cancer Council Biggest Morning tea being on the 26th May at 10am in the Swan Reach Community Library. Everyone is welcome to come along for a cuppa and a delicious morning tea. Please bring a plate of food to share.
Hey there,
As you might be aware, we're taking part in The Push-Up Challenge this June and would love you to get involved too.
The Push-Up Challenge has participants completing 3,144 push-ups over 23 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health. It all kicks off on June 1st.
Sounds like too many push-ups? No probs, alternatives to push-ups are allowed and many people take on half of the target instead of 1,572.
It is free to take part and there is a sweet app where you can check on how myself and others in our team are going too.
If you're keen to get involved, or at least to check out our team, check out our page:
https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/fundraisers/swanreachpushupchallengeteam2023
Would be great to have you taking part in the push for better mental health.
Cheers
Karl Lienert – Swan Reach Area School Push Up Challenge Ambassador
