Hello Swan Reach,
It is pleasing to see SRAS students so active in classroom and real-life learning experiences. The R-12s once again participated in Remembrance Day Ceremonies. ‘Lest we forget’ has enormous meaning for past, present and importantly, future generations. Teaching this generation the significance of the sacrifice and benevolence of our service men and women, to preserve the privileges and freedoms we experience today, ensures this honourable legacy will continue.
Other authentic learning experiences our students and children have engaged in this term include:
- Preschool special family and cultural cooking
- The SRC led fair and mid-term assembly
- 9/10 cooking assessment task – catering for chosen adult
- Year 10 round table interviews
- 7-9 & R-2s business economics market stalls
- Whole school transition
- 3-6 excursion to The Old Barn to practice presentation evening item
With the current flood situation to continue increasing its impact on the community, the trauma-informed brochures included with this newsletter may assist families who are feeling the strain, now or future.

2023 HOME GROUPS
SRAS has decided and Governing Council have endorsed the home groups detailed below:
- Preschool in ELC
- Reception – year 2 class
- Year 3 / 4 class
- Year 5 / 6 class
- Year 7-10 for HG and electives only (7/8s and 9/10s will have separate classes for core learning subjects)
- Year 11/12 HG
We are working through staffing arrangements and possibly won’t be able to announce a secondary and the 5/6 teacher until next year. While we have retained most current staff to enhance the continuity of learning for all students, we are able to announce the following:
- Mrs Tracey Gierke is retiring. Mrs Vanessa Hancock from Wongulla will be our Finance / Admin Officer in 2023 and beyond
- Mrs Sarah Bolt is taking leave for 2023
- Miss Fran Newman will be departing at the end of the year
- Mrs Lucinda McKenzie will join our secondary teaching team
2022 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
SRAS has decided to cancel the 2022 swimming carnival due to the rising waters placing our community under added stress, and staff and family exhaustion from another BIG year. We look forward to its return to our traditional time in week 2 of term 1, in 2023.
Last term, the ELC team was lucky enough to win a small community grant from Mid Murray Our Towns to enhance community wellbeing. We are using the grant to conduct cooking sessions for our community, where families and community members are invited to plan, cook and share a dish that is special to their culture or family. Earlier in the term we cooked spaghetti bolognese together, and last week we had our first school community session with Mrs E (Yuka) and the 7/8 students. Mrs E involved the children in preparing and cooking Japanese dumplings and the 7/8 students helped them to cut and mix the filling, and then construct the dumpling. Everyone had a try and 99.9% thought they were delicious. Thankyou so much Mrs E and 7/8 students for giving us a taste of Japan.
If you are interested in joining in, whether planning a cooking session or watching one, check out the poster in this newsletter and come and talk to staff.
Mrs Trish Horstmann

On Friday, 18th November the year 12 class combined their Formal and Graduation Dinner together into one evening at the Swan Reach Hotel. This was a great chance to celebrate the completion of their schooling with their families and staff members. It was great to see so many people turn up to celebrate. Well done to Naomi for organising the event.

Deputy Principal
