Hello Swan Reach,
As the end of term draws nearer, it is important our staff and students persist with quality teaching and learning. Everyday and every lesson provides opportunity to develop and importantly demonstrate academic, social and behavioural growth. As their primary educators, SRAS relies on your ongoing support. Thank you for:
- persisting with their home learning routines
- assisting with their organisation each day
- encouraging their confidence to have a go
- assisting their getting along with siblings, friends, family and staff
- building their resilience when things initially don’t work out how they wished
- your ongoing communication
Staff are most fortunate, as we facilitate your child(ren)’s learning during the best hours of the day and then get to hand them back to you. Parenting and Caring is the toughest job on Earth but is often also the most rewarding. Teaching, supporting and learning too, can be tough but also extremely rewarding. We are in this together and have similar goals for our youth – to help them be the best version of themselves as possible. We can do it!
Mr John Robertson
Principal
RU OK?
SRAS embraces wellbeing through our WeMatter initiative and programs. SRAS is excited to refresh our approach to wellbeing through partnering with The Resilience Project (TRP), starting in 2023. We’ll share more about TRP next term.
SRAS acknowledges that ALL have tough times – life is full of challenges - and that it is unrealistic to be OK all the time. Whilst any day is a good time to ask are you OK, having an RU OK day can assist us to ensure we check-in on one another. It is often through the understanding and kindness of others that helps and supports us in times of need.
When asked how we are going, we often automatically respond “good… OK… not bad ... fine… etc”, so it is important to pause after asking if someone is OK and re-ask the question and allow permission for the respondent to be open and share if something isn’t OK. And if an “I’m not OK” response is shared, it is vital to be able give time to listen. See ideas below from the RU OK website or visit to find out much more @ https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
GETTING READY TO ASK
Before you can look out for others, you need to look out for yourself. And that’s OK. If you're not in the right headspace or you don't think you're the right person to have the conversation, try to think of someone else in their support network who could talk to them.
To help you decide whether you’re ready to start a meaningful conversation, ask yourself:

On Tuesdays during Week 6 and 7, the R-6 students had Nick from SANFL as a special coach to teach the skills of Australian Football. It was a great opportunity for these students to continue learning from the Auskick sessions that they had last term. The explicit coaching helped them develop their skills as well as havinga great time playing some games. Nick is planning to return on Tuesday in week 9 to have more game sense activities with the students.

Introduction
The task was to make something healthy with chocolate. I made healthy choc chip cookies. I chose this recipe because the photo looked delicious.
https://thebigmansworld.com/healthy-chocolate-chip-cookies/
Here are the ingredients
- 2/3 cup plus 1/2 cup oat flour (140g)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 4 tbsp coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 4 tbsp regular sugar, unrefined if desired
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips, or more if desired
- optional 1/3 cup chopped macadamia or walnuts
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp vegetable or melted coconut oil
- 3-5 tbsp milk of choice, as needed
- Combine dry ingredients and mix very well.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 380 degrees.
- Combine dry ingredients and mix very well.
- Add wet, and form into a big ball.
- Now make little balls from the big one.
- For soft cookies, refrigerate until cold (otherwise, just bake right away).
- Bake 9 minutes.
- Remove from oven when they’re still a little undercooked, then it’s important to let cool 10 minutes before removing from the tray, as they’ll continue to cook while cooling.
- They should have spread out, but every now and then they might not (climate plays a huge role in baking), so just smush down with a spoon if needed.
- You can also choose to make extra cookie dough balls and freeze them to bake at a later date. For softer cookies, store in a lidded plastic container. For crispier cookies, store in a lidded glass container.
In the end it went well. I was a bit nervous to use the oven but Lina helped me. I was also scared to make the cookies since I hadn’t made them before. However, Mrs Endersby liked them and they turned out good in the end. Kyla
