SRC MID-TERM ASSEMBLY & SFD (STUDENT FREE DAY)
Come along and join us for our SRC led, mid-term assembly, on Thursday 25th August, starting at 2:45pm in the outdoor learning area.
A reminder that Friday 26th August is a SFD. Secondary staff will be joining with Waikerie HS staff to further implement our Literacy goal to improve students’ writing outcomes (year 7-12). Primary staff will remain at SRAS and engage in more professional learning about effective Maths Instructional Routines.
DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION PARENT SURVEY
Reminder: the parent survey closes Sunday 28 August
The parent survey is a great opportunity to get valuable insights into parent engagement at SRAS.
Across South Australia we have had over 16,000 parents respond to the survey – but so far, only 5 from SRAS – thank you these respondents – your opinion matters. SRAS encourages more parents and carers to participate in the survey, using the unique link that has been emailed or texted to them directly.
Families can also access the survey via our school's unique link below:
https://survey.education.sa.gov.au/sc/Za822zzt1xRznXYIIeWyOQ2
Families can find more information at www.education.sa.gov.au/parentsurvey
This is a great opportunity for parents/carers to arrange a time to have a chat about your child/s learning progress and Individual Learning Plans. Parents are welcome to contact the front office and arrange a time to have a catchup either by phone or in person.
- Engage in rich discussions with them about their aspirations and possible plans for their future
- Help them decide what they enjoy doing and what they’re good at to identify potentially suitable career path options
- Discuss their study strengths and areas for improvement as they have demonstrated during their time at school
- Talk with them about the information and ideas they considered in their Personal Learning Plan.
On Thursday in week 10 of Term 2 the year 10 students were going to the ‘Taste of Training’ day held at Berri Regional Secondary School, which was cancelled due to illness. Our 3 students have shown interest in:
- Engineering/Welding and Fabrication Certificate II
- Hairdressing, Salon Assistant Certificate II
- Rural Operations/Animal Studies Focus Certificate II

YEAR 7-10 HOME GROUP ACHIEVEMENT
Congratulations to the Year 7-10 Home Group who achieved their goal of all students wearing school uniform by Week 4 of this term. Well done.
Early Learning Centre – Let’s go Shopping!
Most of last term we had a shop set up in our role play area in the ELC, “Swan Reach ELC General Store”. The children had a great time helping to set it up and playing shops with their friends. The focus was to improve oral language by having conversations with each other, increasing vocabulary, learning about different foods, learning about different shops and roles within a general store. We also learnt a little bit about money and how we pay for things.
In the last week of Term 2, the children got to practise their language during a visit to the Swan Reach Op Shop. Each child was given two dollars to spend. It was very hard to choose, but eventually they all found some treasures (heavily discounted thanks to the lovely op shop staff) as well as a free book to take to the counter. It was great to hear them use the language that had been modelled in the role play area as they purchased their goodies.
Mrs Trish Horstmann
The Black Swan Racing team competed in our second race, which was at The Bend on the 6th of August, where the track is 3.4 km.
This event was an 8-hour race, and we came 95th out of 150 other teams. Everyone in the team got to race and put in a very good effort on the day. At one stage were all pretty worried when, after 20 minutes we couldn't see Timothy coming around the track. Ryan and Harley climbed to the very top of the viewing area and spotted our bike being loaded onto the back of the Chief Marshall’s ute. Fortunately, the bike was not damaged and Timothy was okay after getting cramp in his legs. Thank you to the Year 9/10 class for making us lunch and Karl for the biscuits. We are very lucky to have Mr Carter, Mr Griffiths and Mrs Griffiths who always help us out. We would also like to thank Teyha’s dad who was kind enough to do the 2-hour marshalling job for the team. We are now preparing for our third event which is the 24-hour race at Murray Bridge.

This year we will celebrate Book Week on Thursday, August 25th. The theme is 'dreaming with eyes open'. The children will be involved in activities in the morning and the parade will begin at 10:25 am. Students are invited to dress up as their favourite character or hero. ALL WELCOME to attend.
Good health habits and personal hygiene are essential life skills. Children need to learn life skills that are necessary in order to become healthy, confident and responsible adults. In people with poor personal hygiene, the body provides an ideal environment for germs to grow, leaving it vulnerable to infection. On a social level, people may avoid a person with poor personal hygiene, which may result in isolation and loneliness.
- Showering or bathing every day.
- Washing hands with soap and water often.
- Washing hair regularly.
- Brushing hair every day and getting haircuts when needed.
- Brushing teeth twice a day.
- Changing underwear daily and wearing clean clothes.
- Using personal hygiene products such as deodorant.
