Hello Swan Reach,
A big sound out to students, families and staff at SRAS for their resilience and ability to continue bouncing back through arguably one of the toughest semesters in recent memory. It is incredible to see the strength and resolve of all to continue supporting our students’ education throughout ongoing COVID affected times. Whilst a high percentage of community has experienced COVID, SRAS families are currently experiencing high flu and sickness rates. An example of this was seen at the primary interschool sports day at Cambrai, where only 50% of primary students attended.
With much illness about, it is timely to remind all families, staff and students, that if ill, thank you for staying home. It is clear that this advise form the department is being taken seriously and actioned by our community – thank you.
MID MURRAY OUR TOWN (MMOT)
SRAS is proud to be associated and partnered with wellbeing advocates MMOT. MMOT will be advertising for community-based applications for ‘micro grants’ of up to $500. These grants are to further the work MMOT is facilitating to assist the Swan Reach Community and surrounding townships, to begin or progress wellbeing-based projects that promote CONNECTION and WELLBEING. MMOT recently polled our youth on ideas they have for these grants and offered a $50 voucher to encourage entries. This was won by year 9 student, Naite Gribble – congratulations.
For more information about the grants go to the MMOT Facebook page @ https://www.facebook.com/OurTownMidMurray2021/?ref=page_internal&locale=ne_NP
MID MURRAY FAMILY CONNECTIONS (MMFC)
SRAS is also proud to be partners with MMFC to raise outcomes for children in the Mid Murray Council Region. The Wellbeing Camps, that some of our students attended in 2021 at Woodhouse Scout Centre, were part of their wide-ranging support. This week, MMFC coordinator, Amie Johnson, delivered a package of free healthy eating books and pamphlets for our community. These are on display and collectable from the front office. Be quick as supplies are limited. Amie also dropped off souvenir books capturing the camp and they are an awesome memento for all who attended – Thank you.

The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is a modern, internationally-recognised secondary school qualification designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and personal capabilities to successfully participate in our fast-paced global society. Coming into semester 2 we will see our current Year 10s experience their first taste of the SACE undertaking their 10 credit Personal Learning Plan (PLP).
PLP is a compulsory subject at Stage 1 that helps students to plan for their future and assists them in choosing the subjects they will study in Years 11 and 12.
See the clip below on building 200 credits for SACE.

- Eningeering/Welding and Fabrication Certificate II
- Hairdressing, Salon Assistant Certificate II
- Rural Operations/Animal Studies Focus Certificate II

The Nildottie Hall hummed with excitement as staff and Pedal Prix students prepared dinner for the guests. Over 90 people enjoyed a hearty home-cooked meal of corned beef and vegetables with white sauce, followed by Mrs Gierke's famous apple crumble with ice-cream. All students were busy on the night serving food, collecting dishes, washing dishes, cleaning up and selling raffle tickets. Jacob and Jazzy spoke to the crowd about Pedal Prix operations and thanked everyone for their support. Many people spoke to the students about the Pedal Prix and commented on how well the students conducted themselves. The dinner was a fantastic opportunity to interact with the community and showcase the Pedal Prix and the Swan Reach Area School. Over $1100 was raised on the night with proceeds going towards the cost of new Pedal Prix jumpers and associated running costs. Well done to all staff and students who attended and worked hard to make the night very entertaining and successful.
