PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Hello Swan Reach,
Thank you, families, students and staff on our successful collaborations to make Sports Day fun for all. It was terrific to be able to have community join us and assist throughout the day with catering, marshalling and supporting. Congratulations to the Kangaroos on a dominant performance and well done to Eagles for your persistence and confidence to challenge throughout the day. Many thanks to Mr Coleman on his organisation and Mr Carter for ensuring the oval was in tip-top condition. Well done and thank you to P&F on your amazing catering.
We were able to induct our school leaders prior to the competition starting and thank Mr Jonathon Wenske for his words of encouragement and wisdom for our leaders and all competitors. Kangaroo House Captains, Ryan and Jazzy, spoke well in their first acceptance speech to round off a fantastic day. Secondary athletes can look forward to the River Mallee &Districts (formerly Upper South East) interschool athletics day in week 9, while primary students can look forward to the combined schools Sports Day with Cambrai next term.
Kind regards
Mr John Robertson

- Felicity (year 7)
- Bailey (year (7)
- Braydon (year 3)
- Lacie (preschool)
FAREWELL
SRAS wishes Ella the very best for her future schooling as she joins Mannum Community College. We’ll miss her lovely smile, calm and caring nature.
COVID-19 UPDATE
SRAS community was quite fortunate to avoid more cases after 2 staff and 2 students tested positive a fortnight ago. There have not been any further reported cases as yet. However, SRAS is extremely tuned into the ever changing and rapidly changing state of COVID-19 in SA and the nation. SA Health and DfE have not provided any further changes to current requirements for staff and students within schools and preschool. They may do so at the end of this week. Until advised differently, SRAS is directed to, and requires:
- all secondary students, staff and adults to wear masks when in doors
- continue with safe practices – regular hand sanatising and social distancing
- staff and students presenting with symptoms (even mild) to stay home
The 2022 SRAS Sports Day was an incredible day for our school. Our students, staff, parents/carers and wider community were amazing! Last Friday, those lucky enough to attend, witnessed a great display of participation, sportsmanship and teamwork. To all who were involved, big or small, I would like to personally thank you for contributing to this great whole-school event.
Now, time to look back at some of the incredible achievements and triumphs on this amazing day for our students.
I would like to firstly credit all students who participated in the combined 3000m/1000m event, held on Wednesday, 16th March. All together, we had close to 80% of the school students competing in the combined event, which is an outstanding effort!
A big thank you to Jonathon Wenske, who did an amazing job of inducting our leaders and officially opening our Sports Day for 2022. He certainly proved why he still holds some incredible records with the intermediate and senior boys javelin!
As witnessed in the action-packed finish to the day, students competed in a number of fun and exciting team games, including the baton relay, tunnel ball, cross pass, firemen’s relay and tug-of-war to name a few. These events provided all students with the opportunity to participate and be a part of a team. Parents were even able to get in on the action of the tug of war and firemen’s relay, competing against the almighty staff. Without doubt, the staff again charged home to take the win in the firemen’s relay, providing some much needed ‘cooling off’ on a hot day.
Overall, a big congratulations to the Mallee Kangaroos on winning the SRAS Sports Day for 2022. Also, congratulations to the individual trophy winners who are listed below.
I would like to thank the efforts of many important people who volunteered their time to help make this day both possible and successful. There are simply not enough staff members to be able to run all of the different activities that are held on this day. I send out a huge thank you to the following people who volunteered to help marshal: Troy Haby, Jonno Wenske, David and Renae Hodge, Ben O’Shaughnessy, Klaus Gierke, Sarah Bolt, Richard Harper and Janet Lebrun. Thank you also to anyone else who helped out at particular events in need throughout the day.
Once again, I sincerely thank the incredible work done by our Parents & Friends team who provided lunch. They are simply amazing! I look forward to working with you all again later in the year.
I save the last thank you for all of the staff who helped me with preparation, set up and pack up of this event. I would like to especially thank the efforts of our groundsman, Mr Phil Carter. We are SO lucky to have you at SRAS and we simply couldn’t hold this event without you.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the students who have been selected to participate in the River Mallee & Districts (formerly Upper South East) athletics day, to be held at Tintinara on Tuesday, 29th March. The SRAS secondary students will combine with Meningie Area School for this event. Our selected primary students will compete in the Murray Mallee SAPSASA team, at a separate event held later in the year. More information to come on this closer to the date.

With the start of the year upon us, it’s a good time to think about online technology and how we can best use this remarkable tool. Those of us who are adults know what fantastic access it can give us to information and entertainment and also how it has enabled us to continue to communicate with family, friends and work places through the challenges of the last couple of years. While we want our children to have access to the benefits of the online world, it can often be difficult to know how to balance the advantages with the drawbacks and potential online dangers. Below is a link to an article from Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s e-Safety Commissioner outlining some of the ways to help our children have a positive experience.
PAINTING FUN
Some of the students were helping me to make a 'logo' for my newsletter columns. I wanted some hands with happy faces, looking as though they are working together and helping each other. Here are some of the photos from our painting session. Thanks to all the students who helped out. Sorry to Mrs E who bore the brunt of the students’ fun! (She was a good sport and didn’t mind the students wiping their painted hands on her arms and legs.)
The Inter-school Primary Sports Day between Swan Reach and Cambrai, that was scheduled for 31st March has been postponed until further notice. Parents/Carers will be notified of the new date when this is decided. Please note it will be held at Cambrai Primary School.
Cheers,
Parents and Friends Committee
